How Can I Help?

Vote for Issue 6 for Lakewood Schools!

Excellent.  Accountable.

Lakewood’s future depends on keeping our schools strong.  Our schools have proven to be accountable, but are struggling in the current economy like everyone.  The district had to cut more than $9 million from the budget in the last five years.  To save additional money, teachers and administrators recently agreed to a pay freeze this year whether or not the levy passes.

Now, the only way the Lakewood Schools can protect academic quality is to pass Issue 6, a 6.9 mill operating levy in May 2010.

If Issue 6 passes, the Lakewood Schools will be able to:

  • Continue recent, major improvements on key state report card measures.
  • Maintain crucial programs our community values.
  • Devote ALL funds from this issue directly to the classroom; no funds will go toward school construction.

If Issue 6 fails:

  • The schools will have to cut at least $2 million more from the budget.
  • Class sizes will increase.
  • The district will lose funds needed to keep good teachers, provide up-to-date textbooks and technology, and sustain programs that attract families.
  • Within a year, an even larger levy than this 6.9 mill request will be back on the ballot.

It’s time to protect our schools, our community, and our investment in Lakewood.  To keep our schools strong, and our community thriving, we must pass Issue 6 May 4.
